drakeoneDrake, the prolific hip-hop star who was last years top-selling artist, has returned with a song collection in which he ventures further into dancehall rhythms and taps fellow big names.

The Toronto rapper, who has long challenged industry definitions, on Saturday dropped More Life and called it not an album or a mixtape but his first playlist.

More Life is anchored by Fake Love, Drakes infectious hit about the phoniness of those around him. He released the song late last year but it did not appear on his blockbuster album Views.

The track is built off a stripped-down beat reminiscent of dancehall, the energetic popular music of Jamaica. He goes more heavily into dancehall on Madiba Riddim, which alludes to anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela and has echoes of Drakes mega-hit with Rihanna Too Good.

Drake, who says he resents being labeled simply as a rapper, goes into full-fledged pop on tracks such as Teenage Fever, a love song that is partially a cover of Jennifer Lopezs If You Had My Love.

futureThe rapper Future made history on Sunday by debuting at number one on the US chart in back-to-back weeks with different albums.

The Atlanta rapper had entered at number one on the Billboard sales chart for the week through February 23 with a self-titled album.

He returned a week later with a completely new album, HNDRXX. It debuted at number one for the week through Thursday, pushing the self-titled album to number two.

HNDRXX sold 121,000 copies in the United States or the equivalent in streaming or downloads during its first week, according to the tracking service Nielsen Music.

It is unusual for artists to release albums with such a short gap, but longstanding promotional strategies have been increasingly evolving especially in rap and dance music as streaming shakes up the industry.

lordeIn one of the most anticipated returns in pop music, Lorde unveiled a new song Thursday in which the onetime teenage star takes a new dance sound and adult look.

The now 20-year-old New Zealander announced a second album called Melodrama, her follow-up to 2013s Pure Heroine which won her phenomenal success while still a teenager.

Lorde released the albums first single, Green Light, which is driven by a strikingly more lively beat than her Grammy-winning breakthrough hit, the minimalist Royals.

Green Light starts off with a sullen piano as Lorde, appearing to explain a breakup, sings: I do my makeup in somebody elses car / We order different drinks at the same bars.

The track quickly heads in a dance direction, with the piano backed up by a driving bass-line, a back-up chorus and a subtle electronica beat.

habidasmalMTV-award winning Kenyan songbird Habida Moloney has released her new single SWEET LOVE.

A solid entrant back into the music scene, the song is Habidas ode to her family, Kenya, and the music industry. It touches on all the little and big things that make her love Kenya so passionately.

In SWEET LOVE, Habida features Ghanaian crooner JTown, who is celebrated for his genuine talent and having some of Ghanas best rhymes. The jazzy R&B song was engineered by UK music geniuses and co-produced by the acclaimed UK-based African producer Silvastone.

Fresh from welcoming a new baby, touring and traveling in the past several months, Habidas latest single is also a special Valentines Day dedication to her fans and marks her comeback.

This song is a different sound from the usual Habida sound because I have grown as a woman, wife and mother, Habida explains. I wrote SWEET LOVE while I was homesick and missing all the little things that make Kenya unique like Swahili Food.

Habida is planning an exclusive listening party soon to celebrate the song and some major announcements. She is inviting 10 of her super fans to join her at the upcoming invite-only event. Additional info:
