Africa’s favorite music show, Coke Studio Africa is back! The launch of the most anticipated continental music show Coke Studio Africa 2019 happened last night (10.02.19) at the Sankara hotel in Nairobi and was well attended by Nairobi’s who’s who.
The star-studded premiere event was hosted by Capital FM’s Amina Abdi, Maqbul Mohammed and Dj Joe Mfalme on the decks. The show had past and present Kenyan Coke Studio Africa participants such as Hip hop first Lady Nazizi Hirji, fast-rising star Nadia, award-winning rapper Khaligraph Jones, 2 in 1 hitmaker Naiboi, breakout stars Ethic, gospel singer Moji ShortBaba, girl group Band Beca and producers Majic Mike as well as Viola Karuri.
The 2019 season celebrates African music greatness with the different top African artists such as Nigeria’s Skales, Tanzania’s Nandy, Harmonize, Rayvanny, South Africa’s Boity and Nigeria’s Rudeboy just to name a few as well as song renditions and themes. The Coca Cola flagship also did not have an international megastar on the show for the first time since it’s inception and also worked with local Kenyan brands such as Pace Africa who design and manufacture an array of audio devices such as Pace focus and pace mate which powered up the sound for the season, clothing brand Home who provided branded clothing merchandise and Yallo leather by Mercy Kyallo, the sister to TV presenter Betty Kyallo.
According to a statement by CocaCola, Coke Studio Africa Project Manager: Andrew Endovo Alovi said prior to the 2019 production, “We are excited to soon kick start the production of Coke Studio Africa 2019 expect an interesting twist of themes and musical fusions! The show has always been at the forefront of producing quality music while at the same time granting various artists across the continent mega exposure, and opportunities to collaborate among each other. They also get to work with some of the best local and international professionals in the music world.”
The show will be aired in Kenya Sundays across various TV platforms such as Citizen TV, Kiss TV and K24 TV at 8 PM, KTN and NTV at 10 PM, Switch TV at 4 pm. The show will also be broadcasted on Radio on the Coke Studio Radio Hour from 16th February on9 on Radio Citizen, Radio Maisha, Milele FM, Nation FM, and NRG radio at 2 PM on Saturdays.
Coke Studio Africa is a non-competitive music collaboration show, which seeks to bring together and celebrate the diversity of African music and talent. It also gives upcoming artists the opportunity to work with some of the best local and international music and production talent. The artists are drawn from different genres, eras, and regions and put in pairs to create a modern and authentic African sound through musical fusion. As the artists interact and produce music documented by the show’s producers, they also get to learn about each other’s music and styles while exchanging cultures. The show takes the viewers inside the recording studio to watch a diverse range of artists.
